  • The Municipality of Trent Hills proclaims June as "Pride Month"

June is recognized as Pride Month in Canada and around the world. It is an opportunity to celebrate sexual diversity, promote equal rights, and build awareness of the challenges faced by the 2SLGBTQI+ community.

This acronym represents Two-Spirit, lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, intersex, and additional people who identify as part of sexual and gender-diverse communities. The “2S” at the front recognizes Two-Spirit people as the first 2SLGBTQI+ communities. The “I” for intersex considers sex characteristics beyond sexual orientation, gender identity and gender expression. The “+” is inclusive of people who identify as part of sexual and gender diverse communities, who use additional terminologies.

People in the 2SLGBTQI+ community come from all walks of life and include individuals of all races and ethnicities, all ages, all socioeconomic levels, and from all parts of the country. Using a person's correct gender pronouns is one of the most basic ways to show your respect for their identity and demonstrate your support for the 2SLGBTQI+ community.
