Proclamation, Lighting and Community Flag Raising Requests

Proclamations, Lighting and Community Flag Raisings are issued to acknowledge efforts, commitment and achievements of organizations, and community groups and to recognize public awareness campaigns, causes and events of significance to the Municipality of Trent Hills.

The Municipality has adopted a Proclamation, Lighting and Community Flag Raising Policy.

Requests for Proclamations, Lighting and Community Flag Raisings should be submitted using our online Request Form.

To be considered for approval, the requestor will be a registered charity or not-for-profit organization and will demonstrate an interest in or have a relationship with the Municipality of Trent Hills, including but not limited to:

  • public awareness campaigns
  • cause is of benefit to and/or supports the residents
  • events of significance
  • demonstrate respect for residents

  • political parties or political organizations
  • promotion of business or commercial enterprise
  • matters related to ideological or religious beliefs
  • matters inciting hatred, or those that are discriminatory
  • intent contrary to corporate policies or by-laws
  • intent is to defame the integrity of the Municipality of Trent Hills
  • matters which are untruthful

  • A Proclamation is a public statement by the Municipality, on the Municipality's website, designating a period (day, week, month) in recognition of a significant event, organization or cause.
  • An organization/cause does not have exclusive rights to the day, week or month of their Proclamation.
  • No Lighting Request or Community Flag Raising Request will be approved unless a Proclamation is issued.

  • In addition to a Proclamation, an organization may request Lighting the clock faces of the Clock Tower, located at 36 Front Street South, Campbellford, in a specific colour.  A maximum of four colours may be requested.
  • Requests will be approved on a first come first serve basis.
  • Lighting will occur from dusk to dawn.

  • In addition to a Proclamation, an organization may request a Community Flag Raising.
  • Requests will be approved on a first come first serve basis.
  • Community Flag Raisings will only occur on regular business days.
  • Community Flag Raisings will take place on the Ceremonial Flagpoles located at:
    • Old Mill Park, 51 Grand Road, Campbellford
    • Trent Hills Library - Hastings Branch, 6 Albert Street East, Hastings
    • Mill Park, County Road 29, Warkworth
  • The Municipality will determine which Ceremonial Flagpoles will be used for each Community Flag Raising.
  • The requestor is responsible to provide a 36" x 72" Community Flag for raising.  The flag will not be stored by the Municipality after the flag raising period.

  • Proclamation, Lighting and Community Flag Raisings should be submitted using our online Request Form.
  • Applications must be submitted a minimum of thirty days in advance of the first day of recognition and may not be submitted more than ninety days in advance.
  • A Proclamation, Lighting or Community Flag Raising will not be issued or approved if the first day to be recognized has passed.
  • The Municipality will advise if the request has been approved or not.

Land Acknowledgement

We recognize the traditional keepers of this land and, specifically our neighbours of the Alderville First Nation, with a formal territorial acknowledgement.

Welcome to the Gunshot Treaty Lands of 1788. It is on these lands and on the shores of the big lake, the Mississauga Anishinabeg met with the Crown to facilitate the opening of these lands for
settlement.

Let us be reminded of the responsibility we all have in making sure that we respect these lands and waters that give us life and sustain our livelihoods.
