Municipal Class Environmental Assessment for Hastings Wastewater Treatment Facility

Notice of Study Commencement

February 27, 2025                                                                                                                     Public Notice

The Municipality of Trent Hills (The Municipality) is initiating a Schedule ‘C’ Class Environmental Assessment (Class EA) study for the proposed expansion of the existing Hastings Wastewater Treatment Facility (WWTF), located at 134 Cedar St., Hastings ON.

The Hastings WWTF is currently operating at 72% of plant capacity, and will require an expansion to accommodate projected population growth in the Village and to address current capacity limitations. This may include a combination of upgrades to existing processes and new treatment processes.

The expanded treatment plant shall be built within the property boundaries of the existing site, as shown by the Study Area limits, illustrated in the adjacent figure.

The Process

The Class EA study will be carried out in accordance with the requirements of Schedule ‘C’ projects of the Municipal Class Environmental Assessment document (October 2000, amended in 2007, 2011, 2015, 2023, & 2024). The Class EA study will identify and evaluate alternative design concepts for the expanded Wastewater Treatment Facility. The Class EA process includes public, indigenous, and external agency consultation. Preferred treatment design concepts will be selected to minimize technical, socio-cultural, natural environmental and economic impacts.

Public Consultation

Public consultation is an integral component of the Class EA process, and we value your input during the planning process. Two Public Information Centres (PIC) will be held in association with the Class EA study. Once dates for the PICs have been scheduled, we will publish invitation notices to the PICs in a local newspaper, on the Municipality’s website and distribute to all individuals who express an interest in this project.

If you wish to be placed on the Project Contact List to receive notices and information, or, to provide comments at any time during the process you can do so by contacting:
