Skating Descriptions & Rules

  • Public skating is an opportunity for a leisurely skate for all ages.
  • Sticks and pucks are not permitted.
  • Adult supervision is required for children ages 12 and under.
  • CSA-approved hockey helmets are strongly recommended for all skaters.
  • CSA-approved hockey helmets are mandatory for children five years of age or younger.
  • Only people wearing skates are allowed on the ice.
  • Skate at a sensible and safe speed in the same direction as other skaters; backward skating is not allowed.

Cash only

  • Stick and Puck is a drop-in recreational skate for parents and guardians to help children practice and develop skating, stick handling and passing skills in a non-competitive environment.
  • Parents/guardians must accompany their children on the ice, wearing skates and a CSA-certified hockey helmet.
  • A CSA-certified hockey helmet with an attached face mask/cage is required for children.
  • Children must have a hockey stick.
  • Hockey nets are provided. 
  • Strollers are not allowed on the ice during Stick and Puck.
  • Please be mindful of others when you are shooting the puck.

Family: $5.75 (up to 5 individuals, including 2 adults)

Kids: $2.50 (under 5 free)

  • It is highly recommended that all participants wear CSA-approved helmets.
    No sticks, chairs, strollers or sleds are permitted on the ice surface

  • Non-competitive, non-contact, informal drop-in hockey program.
  • Shinny Hockey is available in 3 categories.
    • Adults 18+ Coed
    • Adults 35+ Coed
    • Youth (PA Days only)
  • This is a non-competitive environment. Please be inclusive and mindful of players of all skill levels and abilities, and keep a fun environment.
  • CSA-approved helmets and full equipment are mandatory for all players and goalies.
  • Shinny is not intended for organized teams.
  • Referees are not provided.
  • Do not sit on the boards.
  • No body-checking is allowed.
  • Youth Shinny MUST have adults on the ice supervising.
  • This activity is not directly supervised. Report any concerns to staff.

  • Skaters must be a CFSA member and be accompanied by a Coach

Land Acknowledgement

We recognize the traditional keepers of this land and, specifically our neighbours of the Alderville First Nation, with a formal territorial acknowledgement.

Welcome to the Gunshot Treaty Lands of 1788. It is on these lands and on the shores of the big lake, the Mississauga Anishinabeg met with the Crown to facilitate the opening of these lands for
settlement.

Let us be reminded of the responsibility we all have in making sure that we respect these lands and waters that give us life and sustain our livelihoods.
